Cleaning/Storage

Allied offers a number of cleaning items/accessories.

Compressed Air - This super pure, nontoxic, nonflammable air spray removes water, dust or other particles from polished samples, optics or other laboratory items.

Cotton Tip Applicators - Useful for general purpose cleaning and for applying etchants, these applicators feature a 6-inch (~150 mm) L, round wood stick.

GP - General purpose, concentrated cleaning solution, this biodegradable, caustic-free solution is recommended for ultrasonic cleaning to remove light oil, fingerprints, dust and grease from metallographic specimens and other laboratory items. Use diluted in water 10-12% by volume. Restricted shipping options.

Micro Organic Soap - Concentrated cleaning solution with a 9.5 pH that is effective at removing microcontaminants and polishing solutions from samples prior to microscopic examination. Dilute with water at 1-2%. Should not be used to clean zinc, magnesium, or aluminum. Restricted shipping options.

Mount Protection Caps - Protect polished mounts for handling and storage by covering them with these "slide-on" LDPE caps. Place a small bit of cotton for added dryness and corrosion protection.

Cleaning

GP, or "general purpose" cleaning solution and Micro Organic Soap are concentrated solutions (to be mixed/diluted with distilled or DI water) that can be used to clean post-polished samples either in an ultrasonic cleaner or manually with a brush or swab. Avoid cleaning Zn, Mg, or Al with Micro as it is very caustic and may corrode these materials.

Compresed Air

A dry, nontoxic, nonflammable air for removing water, dust or other particles from polished samples, optics or other laboratory items.

Protection Cap

These LDPE caps slide tightly onto mounts to offer protection during handling and storage. Adding cotton or covering in Kapton tape helps control moisture to reduce the chance of possible corrosion.

Storage

These "books" help to protect lapping film from exposure to debris following use and have tabbed pages to identify each micron size with a color chart on the front cover.
