OptiPrep™

OptiPrep™

The OptiPrep™ System is designed for production polishing of a wide variety of optical components including Ferrules, Connectors, Waveguides, Silicon V-groove, Optical Chips, Capillary/Glass Lenses, Fiber Bundles, Ribbon Fiber and Bare Fiber

Optical polishing applications rely on specific geometry. The OptiPrep™ features a fixed cam-lock interface reference that is parallel to the plane of the platen. Desired sample angles are obtained based on geometric orientation built into the fixture.

Z-positioning/indexing is displayed on the digital indicator with 1-micron resolution and can be pre-set for unattended operation. Variable speed rotation/limit rotation and oscillation with variable sweep maximize use of the entire abrasive surface.

Adjustable load control expands its capability to handle a range of small (delicate) to large samples.

Applications where the OptiPrep™ is used often require custom fixtures. Please contact Allied for assistance with a current fixture or to design and manufacture a fixture for a complete solution.

OptiPrep™ Sample Holders

Abrasives

Alumina - Made with 99.9% pure aluminum oxide, these high-purity abrasives are available in powder, suspension and colloidal formulations. 

Diamond - Available in either poly or monocrystalline, this premium grade diamond abrasive is available in several carrier options, alcohol, compound, glycol, water; all being water-soluble.

Silica - Available in various particle sizes and formulations, these products are used primarily for final polishing applications to achieve ultra smooth surface finish with minimal material removal rate.

Note: Shipping restrictions apply to some of these products and are considered "DG" by IATA and US DOT, additional charges may apply/be incurred.

Cloths

A wide range of polishing cloths is offered for fine grinding or for coarse, intermediate and final polishing of all materials.

Adhesive-back cloths attach to standard platens, while flexible or rigid discs with ferromagnetic backing secure to magnetic platens.

Discs

Standard Diamond Lapping Film consists of precision graded diamond particles resin bonded to a uniform mylar film. They provide excellent edge retention and maintain coplanarity regardless of varying materials or hardness within the sample. Typically used for unencapsulated cross-sectioning, TEM wedge/plan-view polishing, backside polishing and FIB sample thinning.
